I've just been browsing the "Twilight" merchandise which is availble everywhere on the internet, especially ebay...
Two things have become very plain to me.
1) Some people out there have far too much time on their hands. Honestly, the vast array of charm bracelets, t-shirts, necklaces, engagement rings (yes, really), bags etc is staggering. Ok, so most of it is really, really bad, tacky and no doubt relatively poor quality (I wonder what Stephanie Meyer and her team make of the copyright infringement?), but some of it is wearable. However...
2) Due to my childhood in Wales, I'm never going to be able to wear anything with the vampire family name on it. There was a family, one who's generations and branches seemed to form most of the village, who's name was CULLEN. One particular branch of this family were obnoxious. The patriarch was well-known as a temperamental, violent man who solved his problems with his fists - he broke one man's arm with a fence post. Anyway, for reasons too complicated to explain in one blog post, they made my family's life a misery and as such, the name CULLEN actually makes me feel somewhat uneasy, still. Even reading the book. Now, seeing t-shirts with "Give Blood, Date a Cullen" and "OCD - Obsessive Cullen Disorder" screen printed on them just doesn't sit well with me at all...
And in all honesty, WHY "Cullen"? It's such an ugly name, it sticks in the mouth rather than rolling off the tongue, and the first three letters mean ARSE in French. Seriously, why, why?
So I'll have to content myself with making a TEAM EDWARD t-shirt myself, with no mention of the surname anywhere to be seen.
